WHAT HAPPENED

On 10 September, AAH secretary-general Qais al-Khazali said Faleh al-Fayyad, the PMF chairman, could hold political executive roles but should not manage the PMF’s military sphere. He accused Fayyadh of benefiting electorally and politically from his PMF position, while denying that AAH sought the post or had an AAH replacement. Khazali instead backed a future administrator drawn from inside the PMF but outside the factions.

WHO CARRIED IT · EVERY MESSAGE, LINKED
  1. Al-Ahad TVAAH — official10 Sept, 23:12

Mr Fayyadh can take more than one executive political role, but the military sphere—especially management of the PMF—is not his area.

  2. Al-Ahad TVAAH — official10 Sept, 23:14

Fayyadh believes his presence in the PMF will provide electoral and decision-making influence, and this must end.

  3. Al-Ahad TVAAH — official10 Sept, 23:15

Our latest position has nothing to do with removing Fayyadh from PMF management; we have no alternative from Asaib and do not seek the post.

  4. Al-Ahad TVAAH — official10 Sept, 23:16

We support a person who is not from the factions but is from within the PMF institution taking over its management in the future.

WHY IT MATTERS

The distinction separates AAH’s public challenge to Fayyadh from an explicit AAH claim to the chairmanship, narrowing the dispute to leadership eligibility and political use of the PMF.
