On 10 September, AAH secretary-general Qais al-Khazali said PMF chairman Faleh al-Fayyad’s influence over elections and decision-making must end and supported a future manager drawn from inside the PMF but outside the factions. Khazali denied that AAH sought Fayyadh’s post or had an AAH replacement, while noting that Fayyadh was over 70 and saying AAH had previously supported him for the Interior Ministry.

The contradiction leaves AAH publicly disclaiming a succession bid while defining both the case for leadership change and the acceptable institutional origin of a successor.
