What brings people out
Share of 57 recorded events across all demands in this window and location. Each event counts once; this measures reporting, not the size of a movement.
Where the reports come from
Governorates named in this view.
A record of reports,
with the evidence attached.
Corroborated means the press and another source side reported the event, or the street and the state or a faction did. It is a source-side rule, not independent confirmation of every detail. Single-side report means one side, or the state and factions without the street or press. Press only means the press reported it without another source side.
Heat shows concentrations of events at resolved places, with recent events contributing more strongly. It does not estimate crowd size or the footprint of a gathering. Reports located only to a governorate shade its whole area in both views. In Events, numbered markers count events at the same resolved place; their colour follows the newest event’s source status. Crowd figures, clashes and casualties remain what the sources reported; an unstated number is never zero. Same-day reports of the same demand in one governorate are grouped, so distinct gatherings can be combined.
Coverage, locations & pictures
Public Telegram channels and the national and local press are read daily. Source coverage is uneven: a blank governorate does not establish that no protests occurred. Events without a location stay in the record. Governorate outlines use the site’s geoBoundaries 2022 dataset; Halabja is listed separately but has no separate outline in that dataset. A resolved place is a geocoded name, not a verified camera position. Event details and source labels are translated into English; the original wording remains in the linked reports. Pictures come from the linked report, are captioned, and may be a video frame or a press lead image; they are not independently geolocated.
