What this site measures, and how to stop it
Iraq Monitor counts its readers so it knows what is read and where from. It does this itself, without advertising or tracking companies, and it never tries to work out who you are.
Your choice
What is measured
For each page you open: the page, its title, the time, how long it was open and in use, and how far down you scrolled. On the first page of a visit, the site you came from and any campaign tag in the link.
About your device: whether it is a phone, tablet or computer, the browser and operating system family, your language setting and screen width.
Where you are, roughly: your country, region and city, as estimated by our hosting provider from your connection. Your IP address is never stored.
What is kept in your browser
No cookies are set. Your banner choice is remembered so you are not asked again.
Only if you accept: a random reader ID, so a returning reader is not counted as new, and a random visit ID that expires after 30 minutes without activity, both in your browser’s local storage. Neither contains anything about you, and neither is shared with anyone.
If you choose essential only, or make no choice: your visit is still counted, anonymously, with nothing stored on your device. Each page load is counted on its own.
Who is never counted
Browsers that send a Do Not Track or Global Privacy Control signal, anyone who chooses “Don’t count me at all” on this page, and automated visitors such as search crawlers and link previews.
Who sees it
The figures are used only by the Iraq Monitor desk, in aggregate, to understand its readership. They are not sold, not shared with advertisers, and not combined with any other data. They are stored with our database provider, Supabase.
