WHAT HAPPENED

Late on 12 September, Al-Ahad TV (AAH — official) published remarks from Sadiqoun general-body member Israa al-Hajjimi alleging that political interference obstructed an investigation into the failure to pass an attack warning to PMF units; she demanded that PMF Commission chairman Faleh al-Fayyad held accountable and criticized his absence from parliament. Political affairs researcher Muhammad al-Yasiri said inquiries became subject to political discretion when they reached the PMF chairman, alleged that the tribal PMF had been expanded to artificial levels for electoral use, said some factions opposed replacing Fayyad and endorsed choosing a chairman from outside the factions.

“Unjustified political influences prevent the investigation into the notification issue... Had al-Fayyad attended the parliamentary hearing, we would have learned why only one faction was notified.”

WHY IT MATTERS

The additions broaden the live dispute from accountability for the attack-warning failure to factional differences over who should chair the PMF Commission and whether PMF expansion served electoral interests.
