WHAT HAPPENED

On 15 September, KSS spokesman Kadhim al-Fartousi said KSS rejected handing over weapons under the Iraqi government’s deadline unless the state could exercise sovereignty and protect its territory and airspace. He said the position had been conveyed to Coordination Framework negotiators during talks with factions over the preceding two days. Press reports identified 30 September as the government-linked deadline for placing weapons under state control.
