On 21 September, Interior Ministry Undersecretary Hussein al-Awadi said the government intended to collect up to six million weapons in the coming months and restrict possession to security forces. PMF military-media director Muhannad al-Aqabi was separately reported saying resistance-faction weapons would not be handed to the government but would be regulated under federal supervision to prevent disorder or abuses. BasNews subsequently summarized the same PMF position as a denial that faction weapons had been surrendered.
