On 25 October, Watan TV (Badr Organization — affiliated/aligned media) carried Badr MP Abu Turab al-Tamimi’s argument that access to Iran serves Iraqi religious tourism and economic interests; he called for alternatives to closure-driven price rises and accountability for banks speculating in currency. In the same evening’s debate on Al-Nujaba TV (Nujaba — official owned media), independent politician Iyad al-Fatlawi alleged party control of crossings, while Badr Organization leader Abdul Hussein al-Dhalmi said the state had controlled them for ten years.

“Our position on airports or crossings with the Republic stems from a national interest concerning religious tourism, economic conditions and the price rises resulting from closing crossings with them. When the government closes crossings and thereby causes a price crisis, it must find alternatives that serve the citizen. There are banks speculating in currency that must be held accountable to brin”
