On 25 October, Al-Janoub TV (Harakat al-Jihad wal-Bina — official owned media) attributed to Maysan Provincial Council head Mustafa Duair a threat to separate the province from Iraq if Shib, the crossing with Iran in Maysan, remained closed; it also reported that MP Jawad Rahim al-Saadi was leading a parliamentary reopening campaign. KH- and Badr-linked outlets carried Maysan MPs’ statement that they would cut the province and its oil off from Iraq, while other coverage attributed higher food prices and loss of access to treatment to the closure. These were reports of officials’ statements, not announcements of faction action.
