WHAT HAPPENED

On 26 September, Al-Ahad TV (AAH — official) carried Information Center for Analysis head Salam Adel’s assertion that the government was “innocent” and the Iraqi Company for Airport Services was responsible for the Iranian-flight restriction; he also said the government would never agree to a blockade of Iran. Political researcher Ramadan al-Badran said Iraq could refuse the restriction but would face sanctions. Political researcher Hadi Jilu Marei said Iraq’s weapons would never be directed against Iran, while political analyst Imad al-Musafir called participation in a blockade of Iran religiously forbidden and described the regional war as America’s war against Shiites.
