The drone file that ended yesterday with Riyadh saying it had intercepted Iraqi-launched drones became a war on Iraqi soil overnight. Saudi Arabia said it intercepted drones aimed at oil facilities for a second day running; by 00:37 UTC the US military said American and Saudi forces had struck sites of Iran-backed groups in Iraq. The PMF said 20 members were killed and 32 injured across the country, with blasts at a Basra headquarters, and Jordan intercepted Iranian missiles the same night. Oil rose on the escalation.

Baghdad's answer came from the street of politics before the cabinet. Muntasiroun's Ibtisam al-Hilali demanded the trip be postponed and the Saudi ambassador summoned, and Badr's parliamentary spokesman asked for outright cancellation "out of respect for the blood of the martyrs"; within the hour the prime minister scrapped the Riyadh visit and called an urgent security meeting. A Badr leader called for a review of Iraq's agreements with Washington, while Muqtada al-Sadr warned the armed groups against dragging Iraq into a "pointless war" and said Iran should not attack Iraq either.

The armed camp split on who answers. Nujaba's signed five-point text — the only faction statement of its own on the strike — demanded expulsion of American bases, severance with Riyadh and accountability for leaving the sky open, and was relayed verbatim across Kataib Hezbollah, Kata'ib Sayyid al-Shuhada, Ashab al-Kahf and Harakat al-Jihad wal-Bina channels. A Saraya Awliya al-Dam front went further, urging "the confinement of the government's weapons in the hands of the resistance". Yet Asaib Ahl al-Haq placed the remedy with the Commander-in-Chief and named no attacker, and Badr's political office called it only "a strategic error".

Ankara is the hedge Baghdad bought a day early. Turkey called the energy alliance a "historic step", with energy, water-corridor and trade coordination and a target of $30 billion in trade exchange; BP brought Turkey's TPAO into the Kirkuk project as Baghdad targets 1 million bpd. Against that, Iraq's power output meets less than half of Kurdistan Region demand, and the desk's crude export reading stands at 488,000 bpd, up 398.0%.

The Militia Digest

The militia information space spent Wednesday on a single event: a dawn strike its channels attribute to "the brutal American occupation and the mercenary Saudi coalition." Harakat al-Nujaba's signed five-point statement, published shortly after 11:20 across its own armed-group, social and television channels, demanded expulsion of American bases, severance of all cooperation with "the criminal Saudi regime," advanced air defences, and warned Washington and Riyadh would not defile Iraqi soil "without a heavy price paid from their interests and their security".

Within roughly ninety minutes the identical text was carried on Kataib Hezbollah, Kata'ib Sayyid al-Shuhada, Ashab al-Kahf and Harakat al-Jihad wal-Bina channels — the only faction text of its own on the strike in the collected window. Press coverage the same hour reported the threat and put the toll at 20 Popular Mobilization members killed and 32 injured.

Bodies arrived at al-Hussein Military Hospital in Baghdad from the Nineveh Plain, and four channels across three factions carried the same funeral line between 11:08 and 11:24 — but only Sabereen News (Kataib Hezbollah — affiliated) identified the dead as "the martyrs of the Saudi-Wahhabi-American aggression," a "Wahhabi" qualifier appearing in no faction-signed text; Al-Nujaba TV, Al-Ittijah TV and Al-Ghadeer TV (Badr Organization — official) published the sentence stripped of cause and unit. Sabereen later reported four dead whose bodies were not yet identified, with no location, unit or toll given by any faction.

Sheikh Hassan al-Shabaki, named commander of the Fourth Regiment in the 30th Brigade, spoke as the bodies reached the capital; Badr's outlet added its own line that "the blood of our sons in the Nineveh Plain will not go in vain". No claim of responsibility for the strike appears in the collected material.

The factions diverged sharply on mechanism.

Al-Ittijah TV (Kataib Hezbollah — official) twice within 24 minutes quoted al-Safi that "the response must be at the level of the overt aggression", naming no target and claiming no operation; in the same hour Asaib Ahl al-Haq's identical statement across three official outlets placed the remedy with the Commander-in-Chief and warned against "the country sliding into further escalation," naming no attacker beyond "foreign states, some of which claim to be allies and others to be brothers." A Saraya Awliya al-Dam front text signed by spokesman Abu Mahdi al-Ja'fari went furthest, demanding immediate expulsion of the Saudi ambassador and, failing government action, "the confinement of the government's weapons in the hands of the resistance" — an inversion of the state's own weapons formula.

Al-Sadr, meanwhile, told Iran-backed groups to keep Iraq out of the war.

On the political flank, Badr's political office published a single midday line calling the events "a strategic error requiring a firm government position," naming no perpetrator, no state and no mechanism, and Badr's outlets carried neither Nujaba's demand list nor any comment on the government's handling of the undefended airspace. Its parliamentarians were blunter: spokesman Hamed al-Moussawi asked the Prime Minister to cancel the Saudi trip "out of respect for the blood of the martyrs," while Muntasiroun member Ibtisam al-Hilali demanded postponement plus summoning of the Saudi ambassador — and the trip was cancelled as an urgent security meeting was called.

Inward, an Asaib Ahl al-Haq leadership channel answered Shia-camp critics of "the insolent militias" by likening them to Mu'awiya. By the desk's counting, 15 of 34 watched channels surged on the Saudi defence ministry and 13 on "Iraqi resistance" today.
