WHAT HAPPENED

On 12 September, Prime Minister and Commander-in-Chief Ali Falih al-Zaidi removed Maysan’s police chief, transferred provincial security directors to the command pool and referred them for investigation. Commander-in-Chief spokesman Sabah al-Numan said the orders followed recent security breaches in Maysan; press reports tied those breaches to drones launched from the province against Saudi Arabia’s East–West Pipeline. Al-Ittijah TV (KH — official) described the measures as government punishment imposed before completion of the investigation.

WHY IT MATTERS

The comparison places KH-owned media in open criticism of the state accountability response even as the wider faction-linked media field carried the personnel changes as news. The removals extend the Maysan response from an operations commander to the provincial police and security-director level.
