WHAT HAPPENED

Drone attacks on Thursday morning struck East–West pipeline facilities in the Riyadh and Medina regions after launching from Iraq, causing injuries, damage and a temporary pipeline closure. Alhurra reported that a senior Saudi official told an Iraqi counterpart that Riyadh held Iraqi factions responsible and would strike those behind the attack. Baghdad subsequently condemned the attacks, opened an urgent investigation, removed the Maysan Operations commander and ordered an investigative council concerning the command.

WHY IT MATTERS

Saudi attribution and Baghdad’s command action align on an Iraqi launch origin, but responsibility for the attack remains attributed to Iraqi factions through Alhurra’s report rather than an identified faction’s acknowledgment.
