On 7 September, Alsumaria characterized Kataib Sayyid al-Shuhada and Nujaba’s positions on the weapons file as “no commitment and no surrender,” then reported that Kataib Hezbollah and Nujaba had informed the weapons committee that they rejected the government deadline. Neither report reproduced a direct faction statement, identified a speaker or specified the deadline. Iraqi Media Development Center president Adnan al-Saraj subsequently told Al-Ahad TV (AAH — official) that arms-regulation negotiations had reached advanced stages and that presenting the process as a result of U.S. pressure creates domestic political crises.
