The Militia Digest

The wounded PMF sit-in outside the retirement authority in Baghdad, now reported by iNEWS (KSS — affiliated) into a fifth day, acquired a leadership sponsor and an official rebuttal within the same quarter-hour. From around midday KSS channels published that Abu Alaa al-Walai had met the protesters, telephoned Prime Minister Ali al-Zubaidi — said to have affirmed commitment to their demands — pledged a representative committee and condemned any assault on them; some ninety minutes later KSS reported a further call to Parliament Speaker Haibat al-Halbousi, who was said to have promised a solution and to receive a delegation. Roughly fifteen minutes after the first KSS post, Al-Ghadeer TV (Badr — official), Sabereen News (KH — affiliated) and Al-Nujaba TV (Nujaba — official) carried a PMF Commission clarification saying the wounded's entitlements within its powers had been met "almost in full", and that the pension demand — cumulating pension with injury pay under the amended Martyrs Foundation Law No. 57 of 2020 — lies outside its competence.

Three KSS channels, S Media (KSS — official), Saed al-Shuhada (KSS — official armed group) and Al-Kornet al-Kata'ibi (KSS — affiliated), had also published identical wording within about a minute placing al-Walai with the protesters, one network republishing itself rather than three separate lines.

On the security file, the parliamentary inquiry into the strikes on PMF headquarters that the channels attribute to the United States and Saudi Arabia moved from analyst commentary — where the morning left it — to named summonses. Al-Ahad TV (AAH — official) posted five summonses within six minutes of the PMF chairman, the PMF chief of staff, the army chief of staff, the senior Interior Ministry deputy and the director of the commander-in-chief's office, four of them with photographed Security and Defence Committee letters bearing seals; Sabereen News carried one of the same lines in near-identical wording minutes earlier. iNEWS, Shabab al-Islam (Ashab al-Kahf — owned) and Sabereen News then published the letter itself, signed by committee chairman Khalid al-Obeidi, calling the five to the committee at 11:00 on Monday 17 August to explain why the targeted headquarters were not evacuated beforehand; Shabab al-Islam broke it into five posts naming Abu Fadak al-Muhammadawi and Faleh al-Fayyad individually. The document's authenticity is not established from the posts, and there is no outside coverage of the summonses; no militia has claimed any counter-action for the strikes.

Still on the inquiry, Al-Ahad TV carried its head, Ahmed Kain al-Khazali, saying the speaker and his deputies have directed parliament to host the relevant security commanders on Monday and to question whether there was prior knowledge of the attack, with measures if negligence is established. On the same channel earlier in the afternoon, political affairs researcher Abbas Ghadeer asked why "all these sacrifices" were made if Faleh al-Fayyad knew in advance when the strikes would occur — a question nothing in the collected material substantiates, and which no faction has endorsed or answered.

In the militia space, Iranian wording travelled across four factions' outlets on a single clock. Al-Ittijah TV (KH — official), Al-Ahad TV and Al-Ghadeer TV each carried the spokesman of Iran's Khatam al-Anbiya Headquarters saying any threat would meet a response "stronger and harsher than before", the identical sentence inside eleven minutes; Sabereen News and Unit 10,000 (KH — affiliated) alone carried the line that no ship would pass the Strait of Hormuz without Tehran's permission, within forty seconds of each other, and Al-Ahad TV alone the claim that the headquarters monitors all American and Israeli movements in the region. Al-Nujaba TV separately carried Mohammad Mokhber on turning the war into an offensive war if Iran's conditions are not met. Every position is a quoted Iranian voice; no collected item has an Iraqi faction naming its own target, timetable or operation.

On the weapons file, Al-Ittijah TV twice carried Miqdad al-Khafaji of the Huquq bloc — the same deputy its channels used this morning on the sit-in assault — saying that more than 65 percent of Coordination Framework deputies reject disarmament "according to American dictates" and that U.S. envoy Tom Barrack is pressuring the government to implement Washington's agendas. The figure is the speaker's own and no other tracked channel states it. Press reports the same afternoon said Iraq has set 30 September for the US-led coalition's exit, with the prime minister turning to the question of Iran-linked militia weapons.

On the Saudi file, the delegation the morning reported as forthcoming has arrived: press coverage put a high-level Iraqi security delegation in Riyadh for talks amid the drone-attack tensions, and the Saudi defence minister saying his country "will always stand with Iraq" as the two sides underscored continued security coordination. No tracked militia channel in the collected window carried the Riyadh talks, while the same networks were naming Saudi Arabia as an attacker in the headquarters inquiry.
