In the north, the Kurdistan Regional Government offered on August 27 to exchange part of its federal oil quota for subsidized fuel. Baghdad refused additional fuel as the region’s reserves reached what was reported as a critical low.

On the domestic front, Iraqi and Saudi officials stepped up coordination on border control and intelligence on August 27.

Al-Ahad TV (AAH — official) carried five guest statements pressing PMF Chairman Falih al-Fayyad to answer parliament, expanding the previous day’s push for a hearing. The speakers agreed on scrutiny but split over the remedy: immediate resignation, possible questioning or dismissal if negligence over the reported Saudi strike were proved. AAH itself issued no demand for Fayyad’s removal.

On the weapons file, Sabereen News (KH — affiliated) relayed what it called a final warning from a KH security official, while Unit 10,000 (KH — affiliated) rejected surrender in favor of organization. Al-Ahad TV, iNEWS (KSS — affiliated) and Watan TV (Badr Organization — affiliated) carried government language about restricting weapons to state hands but endorsed neither position. Separately, a Badr lawmaker and an Al-Ahad guest both stopped short of unconditional surrender: one left conditions unspecified, while the other linked regulation to ending the Turkish presence. No faction announced a weapons handover.

In Doura, six faction-linked outlets agreed that gunfire during an encroachment-removal operation killed two police officers, but only Sabereen News linked the shooters to Saad al-Aithawi’s group. No Iraqi militia claimed responsibility, and the named group’s factional affiliation was not identified. Press reports said the prime minister ordered a manhunt and parliament recommended an inquiry.

On Syria, a Badr parliamentary bloc lawmaker said Badr would adopt a position if Shiism or holy sites were threatened. The statement, carried by Al-Ghadeer TV (Badr Organization — official), specified no armed action, target or timetable.

Muhammad al-Baldawi (AAH — Sadiqoun bloc) said Sadiqoun members asked the prime minister to refer two PMF laws to parliament. He said an official agreed they would be sent later, but neither law has been referred or listed for parliamentary consideration.

At the Higher Education Ministry, Unit 10,000, Al-Nujaba TV (Nujaba — official) and Sabereen News reported arrests during a protest by contract representatives. Al-Nujaba TV alleged forceful dispersal, while Sabereen News alone added assaults, torn banners and media removals; none attributed the police action to a militia.
