Yesterday's strike became today's governing problem. Baghdad's answer to the joint US-Saudi raids on Popular Mobilization Forces sites — which the PMF says killed 20 of its members and wounded 32, with six Iranian advisers among the dead — moved from the presidency and parliament's condemnation of the attacks to a government pledge of tighter security and state control over weapons and, by this morning, a government spokesperson announcing an urgent security plan to stop attacks on neighbouring states from Iraqi soil.

That pledge is squeezed from both ends: President Trump said the strikes were coordinated with Baghdad, a US lawmaker called for halting aid to Iraq until Iran-backed militias are disarmed, and Bloomberg's own reading of Riyadh's decision asks why the Saudis struck despite cordial ties — while the AP photographed the funerals of the dead PMF fighters.

The armed camp's reply pointed outward rather than at Riyadh. Before dawn, five militia channels — Sabereen News (Kataib Hezbollah — affiliated), Unit 10,000 (KH — affiliated), Shabab al-Islam (Ashab al-Kahf — owned), Al-Ahad TV (Asaib Ahl al-Haq — official) and Jehad Brothers Team (Harakat al-Nujaba — affiliated) — reported rockets striking Jordan's Muwaffaq al-Salti airbase, the KH pair alone branding the fire "Haidari" while the other three reported explosions without naming a firing party.

Politically the file is being fought as a denial: iNEWS (Kata'ib Sayyid al-Shuhada — affiliated media) relayed Khafaji saying "aggression must be answered in kind" and that no committees have been formed over the Gulf states' allegations of bombardment from Iraq — the desk records no Iraqi militia claim of those alleged strikes. Meanwhile a top PMF commander rejected the disarmament push and Muqtada al-Sadr blamed "reckless" militias for drawing the strikes onto the PMF.

Behind that argument the two busiest networks are pulling apart on method, not aim. Al-Ahad TV (AAH — official) published the Sadiqoun bloc's letter asking the parliamentary presidency to table a PMF structural law, attaching a scanned Council of Representatives document naming deputies with provinces and committee roles — the desk notes the table's transcription is imperfect. In the same hour Unit 10,000 (KH — affiliated) made Iraqi state television its subject by name, contesting its broadcast of marjaiya sermons on confining weapons to the state, dating those sermons to the ISIS war and "the chaos of Tishreen" and casting the disarmament demand as a "Zionist-American plot".

One network works the paperwork, the other the pulpit, on the same file — and the KH post disputes the meaning of the marjaiya's own words rather than the parliament's calendar.

The economics run the other way from the escalation, which is what makes both tracks costly. The desk's crude export reading stands at 488,000 bpd, against 98,000 bpd in the previous reading, and both Ankara and Baghdad expect Iraqi flows through the pipeline to continue while an extension deal is discussed, even as Brent settled at 91.82 USD/bbl, down 8.5%.

On the graft side the same networks that stayed quiet on authorship were loud on corruption: the Federal Integrity Commission's 30 warrants and above-9-billion-dinar seizures in Diwaniyah municipality were relayed in near-identical wording by Badr's Watan TV and Al-Ghadeer TV, AAH's Al-Ahad TV and KSS's iNEWS, with only Ansar Allah al-Awfiya's official channel adding faction content — deputy Murtada al-Saadi demanding an amended Integrity Commission law and activation of the "where did you get this" principle.

By late morning Watan TV and Al-Ahad TV carried the Diwaniya provincial council's own announcement of arrests for bribery and embezzlement, Al-Ahad adding a travel-ban report it attributed to unnamed reports.
