On 19 September, Kurdistan24 reported Iraqi Parliament Security and Defence Committee member Sherwan Doberndani saying dollar smuggling remained uncontrolled and that failure to place weapons under state control and withdraw them from armed factions by 30 September could expose Iraq to severe US financial and economic sanctions. He cited recent US sanctions against Iraqi companies and individuals allegedly involved in money smuggling as evidence of pressure. Separate reporting identified 30 September as the date originally set by Baghdad for bringing faction weapons under state control, while officials said the process could continue beyond it.
