Shafaq News reported on 19 September, citing an informed government source, that Prime Minister Ali Falih al-Zaidi would meet President Donald Trump during the week on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly in New York. The source said al-Zaidi would ask Trump to postpone possible US financial or economic sanctions on Baghdad connected to failure to resolve the faction-weapons file after 30 September; Middle East Online described him as bringing new commitments to settle that file. Security adviser Qasim al-Araji separately said the committee bringing weapons under state control had no fixed deadline.
