On 8 September, political analyst Mufid al-Saidi and Sadiqoun MP Ahmad al-Musawi, speaking on Al-Ahad TV (AAH — official), endorsed state control of weapons but said it must cover every component and all Iraqi territory, including the Kurdistan Region. Al-Saidi said the process required a studied plan and should include armed groups belonging to other components; Sadiqoun MP Ahmad al-Musawi said the resistance should support the state, called the Peshmerga constitutionally the Region Guard and said its movement under a political party’s direction violated the law and constitution.

“All national forces and the resistance should support the state in controlling weapons; the Peshmerga is subject to legal accountability; the term Peshmerga is unlawful and it is constitutionally the Region Guard; weapons control must cover all Iraqi territory, including the Region.”

“On 30 September Iraq will be rid of American and foreign forces; state control of weapons must include all components, not only the resistance; the process must follow a studied and sound plan; groups belonging to other components also possess weapons and must be included.”
Compared with a framework focused on resistance factions, both formulations widen the parties expected to disarm or submit to state regulation; Sadiqoun MP Ahmad al-Musawi’s version also places the Kurdistan Region’s forces inside that dispute.
