On 5 November, faction-linked outlets carried Patriotic Union of Kurdistan leader Bafel Talabani’s rejection of the regional government and parliament, alongside his stated intention to appoint a regional president, prime minister and ministers if the Kurdistan Democratic Party did so. Al-Ahad TV (AAH — official owned media) also carried PUK member Ghazi Kakai’s refusal to participate in forming the next government and political researcher Ali al-Faili’s defense of the parliamentary leadership election as legal and legitimate. KDP member Hussein al-Jaf urged dialogue and said he hoped the PUK’s withdrawal would be temporary.
