WHAT HAPPENED

On 2 September, Al-Ahad TV (AAH — official) carried a caption attributing to Zulfiqar Hussein (National Current — secretary-general) the statement that faction weapons were no longer needed because Iraq was stable and possessed complete sovereignty. Only the caption and silent frames were supplied, so the broadcast’s fuller wording was not assessed.
