On 25 October, Watan TV (Badr Organization — affiliated/aligned media) carried MP Abu Turab al-Tamimi’s allegation that awarding projects at inflated prices drains Basra’s resources and obstructs development. He also alleged that influential businessmen direct companies and recruit hundreds to defend their interests, while beneficiary companies maintain online networks praising Basra’s governor and attacking critics. Citing an activist accused of extortion after raising a corruption case, he called for investigation of the underlying corruption as well as any extortion.
