On 21 October, Al-Ahad TV (AAH — official owned media) reported Basra protests against an intended Shalamcheh closure while saying the local government considered closure unlikely; its correspondent said most Iraqi students studying in Iran use that crossing. Its Wasit correspondent said more than 60 percent of Iranian arrivals pass through Zurbatiya, described truck and visitor traffic as flowing smoothly, and warned of severe economic damage if it closed. Sabereen News (KH — affiliated/aligned media) subsequently relayed Khuzestan province’s instruction that Iraqis in Iran use Shalamcheh because Shib was closed.
