AAH channel presses Iraqi institutions to answer alleged Saudi strikes

Al-Ahad TV (AAH — official) carried analyst Hisham al-Sayyab demanding the presidencies, parliament, foreign ministry, intelligence and national security act on what he called Saudi aggression and take it to the UN Security Council

WHAT HAPPENED

Just before 01:00 on 2 August, Al-Ahad TV, Asaib Ahl al-Haq's official channel, posted a card quoting writer and political analyst Hisham al-Sayyab calling the government's position puzzling and the Saudi bombardment entirely rejected, and listing demands: joint institutional government committees on the Saudi aggression, a committee drawn from the foreign ministry, intelligence and national security to assess its repercussions, a position from the presidencies, a parliamentary session, and escalation of the matter to the UN Security Council in an extraordinary session. The broadcast graphic carries panels showing the parliament chamber and a Sadiqoun bloc press conference. The underlying Saudi strikes are described only by this guest; no outside coverage of them is in hand.

WHO CARRIED IT
  1. Al-Ahad TVAAH — official owned media02 Aug, 03:46

The government's position is puzzling and the Saudi bombardment is entirely rejected... joint institutional government committees must be formed to examine the Saudi aggression... parliament must hold a session as moral support for the government in response to the Saudi aggression... Iraq must escalate the Saudi attack to the Security Council and convene an extraordinary session on it.

WHY IT MATTERS

Both lines are aimed at the same institutions Asaib Ahl al-Haq's Sadiqoun bloc sits inside, and the parliamentary route named here is one the bloc can actually attempt, which makes the next few days' parliamentary calendar the test of whether the broadcast demand becomes a motion.
