On 13 September, Civil Defense reports carried by KH-, KSS- and Badr-linked outlets said two workers died and about 50 people were injured in an ammonia leak at the Southern Fertilizer Manufacturing Company in Khor al-Zubair; the Basra governor subsequently put the injured toll above 80. After the industry minister ordered a committee to determine the cause, Falih al-Khazali, KSS’s Muntasirun bloc head and an MP, held company management responsible. He said the company had previously been referred to the Integrity Commission over corruption suspicions supported by Federal Board of Supreme Audit observations.
