On 26 August, Al-Kornet al-Kata'ibi (KSS — affiliated) called supporters to begin an open sit-in near Basra's presidential palaces on 1 September, with passage of the PMF law as the sole demand and instructions to carry only Iraqi and PMF flags. Later that morning, Al-Ittijah TV (KH — official) carried MP Mohammed Abu al-Ais demanding that the government send the law to parliament for a vote.

“Our appointment is Tuesday, 1 September 2026, and there is one demand: passage of the PMF law... We call on the people of Basra and all supporters of the PMF to attend and participate in launching the open sit-in.”

“We demand that the government send the PMF law for a vote inside parliament.”
The observable difference is between KSS's scheduled street pressure in Basra and KH's government-facing demand; participation by additional factions would narrow that distinction.
