Counted: an Iraqi militia actor, its umbrella or its facade claim-brand, saying it carried out an operation
Not counted: Iranian, Houthi or Lebanese Hezbollah claims relayed by an Iraqi channel — those are their operations, not Iraq’s
Not counted: reports that an attack happened. A claim and an attack are two different things and the desk keeps them apart

Counting is suspended.On 1 August this record showed 11 claims. Every message behind them was somebody else — the IRGC in Hormuz, the Jordanian army, Israel’s war minister, Trump. Hand-checking 200 messages put the classifier at 7% precision, so the desk stopped producing the number rather than publish one it cannot defend, and deleted what it had published. The zero above is the honest state of the record, not a measurement: no Iraqi faction claim has been verified by this desk. Counting resumes when the classifier has a known error rate.
