On 12 September, Shabab al-Islam (Ashab al-Kahf — owned/non-official) reported a heavy PMF security deployment across the western Anbar desert toward the Syrian border after detecting what it called suspicious movements by remnants of terrorism. Al-Kornet al-Kata'ibi (KSS — affiliated) repeated the same wording shortly afterward. No Iraqi security authority confirmed the reported deployment.
