On 20 October, صوت الإمارات and شبكة تواصل الإخبارية published accounts attributing to the PMF media directorate an announcement of a 17 October explosion in a damaged-munitions depot at a PMF facility east of the canal in Baghdad. Both accounts said the directorate reported no human casualties by the time of its announcement.

“The General Directorate of Media of Iraq’s Popular Mobilization Forces announced on Saturday, October 17, an explosion in a depot for damaged munitions inside a facility belonging to the authority east of the canal in the capital, Baghdad. The directorate confirmed that no human casualties had been recorded by the time the statement was issued.”
