KH channel pushes anti-corruption fix for looming budget crisis

Al-Ittijah TV (KH — official) published an Iraqi MP's fiscal prescription arguing the cost of a looming financial crisis must fall on corruption files and official privileges rather than on employees and citizens

WHAT HAPPENED

Al-Ittijah TV (KH — official) posted a graphic quoting an Iraqi member of parliament — the caption text and the on-image signature give different names, with the image reading "MP Dr. Muqdad al-Khafaji" — saying "a suffocating financial crisis looms and may paralyse the joints of the state if current conditions persist," and that the response must not be "loading the cost of the crisis onto the employee and the citizen" but rather "opening the corruption files, recovering public money, activating non-oil revenues, stopping double salaries and monthly bonuses and unjustified privileges for senior officials and some ministries and resource-draining bodies, and unifying the salary scale." No other tracked channel in the collected window was observed carrying the same statement.

WHY IT MATTERS

The two networks are offering the Iraqi public competing explanations for the same budget problem, one domestic-accountability and one external-pressure, which shapes who bears the political cost of any austerity measure.
