AAH channel pushes Babil court case over Jurf al-Nasr remarks

WHAT HAPPENED

Between 09:08 and 09:32 on 12 August, Al-Ahad TV (AAH — official) published four items on former MP Adnan al-Janabi's statements about Jurf al-Nasr, culminating in a direct quote from Babil Governorate Council chairman Asaad al-Maslmawi saying the council was surprised by the statements and had filed a judicial complaint. Visual review of the accompanying graphic shows on-screen text stating that al-Janabi described the Jurf al-Nasr liberation operations as an occupation, that the provincial council filed suit, and that Babil governor Ali Turki called the remarks discordant. No other tracked channel in the collected window carried this story, which is why the finding rests on a single owned outlet and is graded no higher than credible.

WHY IT MATTERS

A provincial council chairman's judicial complaint against a former MP for characterising a security operation is a use of the courts against speech, amplified by a faction-owned outlet, and the record of who else picks it up will show whether this is a Babil matter or a wider line.
