Across roughly 95 minutes on 14 August, AAH-owned Al-Ahad TV ran at least ten items on an alleged assault on its Basra correspondent Fadhil Hasan, reporting statements by the Iraqi Observatory for Press Freedoms demanding that the Ministry of Oil apologise, open an urgent investigation and hold those responsible to account, calling the withdrawal of journalists' badges a clear violation, backing a boycott of ministry activities, and calling on the prime minister's office and the ministry to instruct protection details to respect journalists. Journalists' Syndicate spokesman Ra'ad al-Mashhadani told the channel a protest would be held in Basra and that the minister should apologise for the conduct of his protection detail, while journalist Ihab al-Maliki told it that only ten outlets were on the protection detail's admission list. The rung is credible: the channel's own correspondent is the subject and the escalation is documented across multiple timestamped items, but the underlying incident rests on statements carried by an interested outlet with no outside coverage in hand.
