Assessed: Araji backs restricting weapons, warns of "bone-breaking"

WHAT HAPPENED

In a single interview segment aired this evening on the programme Nisf Da'ira, Bahaa al-Araji, head of the Reconstruction and Development parliamentary bloc, said weapons would not be handed over under threat, that the solution is dialogue, that fighting between the factions and the government is unlikely, and that there may be "bone-breaking" in the weapons-restriction process. In an adjacent segment minutes earlier he said the Framework forces "including the resistance" are in favour of restricting weapons, that some people imagine restriction is tied to American orders, and that to his knowledge no dialogue between the government and the factions exists yet. The rung is set by a single speaker on a single channel with no second line: what is established is what he said, not what any faction will do.

The Framework forces, including the resistance, are in favour of restricting weapons — some imagine that restricting weapons is tied to American orders — to my knowledge there is no dialogue between the government and the factions so far.

قوى الإطار ومن ضمنهم المقاومة مع حصر السلاح - يتصور البعض بأن حصر السلاح مرتبط باوامر امريكية - بحسب علمي لا يوجد حوار بين الحكومة والفصائل حتى الان

  2. Al-Ahad TVAAH — official13 Aug, 21:50

Weapons will not be surrendered under threat and the solution is dialogue — fighting between the factions and the government is unlikely — there may be bone-breaking in the process of restricting weapons — some of the factions' demands regarding restricting weapons are legitimate.

WHY IT MATTERS

AAH's own channel is establishing, in advance of any handover, that acceptance of state control over weapons is conditional and that a coercive version of it carries a cost — which is the frame any later refusal would be argued from.
