Badr spokesman attacks state audit board on AAH television

Asaib Ahl al-Haq's Al-Ahad TV gave Badr bloc spokesman Hamid al-Mousawi four consecutive segments attacking the Board of Supreme Audit over a staff housing land deal, naming Khamis al-Khanjar's nephew as the investor, and signalling pressure on General Electric's contracts

WHAT HAPPENED

Between 20:53 and 20:55 UTC on 27 July, Al-Ahad TV, official media of Asaib Ahl al-Haq, aired four segments from the spokesman of the Badr bloc, MP Hamid al-Mousawi. He said parliament had decided to "join the head of the Board of Supreme Audit with the offending ministries" and that the chamber "will turn into a public trial"; he recounted the purchase of a plot for distribution to Board of Supreme Audit staff, saying "there is no justice in the distribution" and that parliament had given the Board a deadline to prepare a three-year report; he opened the file of the staff housing compound and identified the investor as "the nephew of Khamis al-Khanjar," asking who the Board chief's "sponsor" is; and on electricity he noted General Electric "has 58 projects in Iraq," hinting at pressure over renewal of its contract and contrasting this with Siemens. No other tracked channel in the window carried these segments.

WHY IT MATTERS

Control of the audit board, of land distribution to state employees, and of the terms on which General Electric renews 58 projects are the concrete levers by which factions convert parliamentary position into money and patronage between kinetic episodes.
