On August 23, Al-Ahad TV (AAH — official) carried Mansour al-Baiji saying Fayadh would leave the PMF chairmanship after passage of the PMF retirement law and that the law should precede implementation of weapons control. Qaisar al-Jorani (Sadiqoun — AAH) alleged that attempts to extend Fayadh’s tenure were delaying the law. Earlier, iNEWS (KSS — affiliated) quoted MP Mahdi Amerli saying PMF legislation would pass very soon, without addressing Fayadh or weapons-control sequencing.
