KSS channel assigns both Saddam's wars to Saddam, rejects nationalist reading

WHAT HAPPENED

Al-Kornet al-Kata'ibi (KSS — affiliated) posted a commentary this evening arguing that those it calls sectarians present the war against Iran as an Iraqi national war because the other side was Shia, while calling the Kuwait war Saddam's war because the other side was Sunni and Gulf Arab; it stated both were Saddam's wars and that cosmetics will not beautify the Baath's past. The attached graphic marks the 38th anniversary of the end of the Iran-Iraq war and the 36th anniversary of the invasion of Kuwait. No other collected channel addressed the anniversaries in this window.

The war against Iran is presented as an Iraqi national war because the other side was Shia, while the Kuwait war is said to be Saddam's war because the other side was Sunni and Gulf Arab! Both wars were Saddam's wars.

الحرب ضد إيران تُقدَّم كحرب وطنية عراقية لأن الطرف الآخر شيعي، أما حرب الكويت فيُقال إنها حرب صدام، لأن الطرف الآخر خليجي سني! الحربان من حروب صدام

WHY IT MATTERS

How these networks narrate the Iran war marks their distance from Iraqi nationalist memory, and here that distance is stated explicitly rather than implied.
