KSS and AAH outlets differ on PMF law's stage

WHAT HAPPENED

Three faction outlets carried the Popular Mobilization Forces law within an hour on the evening of 23 August. iNEWS (KSS — affiliated) twice quoted Sadiqoun MP Qaisar al-Jurani saying parliament is waiting for the government to send the law so it can pass it, and reported that cabinet vacancies and the law were both nearing final steps; Al-Ahad TV (AAH — official) carried Israa al-Hujaimi saying the law will be approved in the current term and an analyst saying the prime minister withdrew it because of the age of PMF leaders; Al-Nujaba TV (Nujaba — official) carried the Ishraqat Kanun bloc announcing support for passing the law and preserving the rights of martyrs and fighters. The rung is credible for what each outlet said — the captions are explicit and mutually visible — but no outlet in the window shows the government having submitted anything.

WHY IT MATTERS

The law fixes the Popular Mobilization Forces' legal status, pensions and command arrangements, and the divergence over its stage shows no faction in this window can point to a government text actually before parliament.
