AAH channel airs MPs' huge loss figures against Electricity Ministry

Al-Ahad TV (AAH — official) aired former National Approach MP Husayn al-Aqabi saying state revenue waste reaches 80 percent, and Sadiqoun MP Salem al-Absawi saying 25 trillion dinars are missing from the Electricity Ministry

WHAT HAPPENED

On the evening of 2026-07-28, Al-Ahad TV (AAH — official owned media) posted two items within a minute of each other. The first quoted former National Approach deputy Husayn al-Aqabi saying "هناك هدر بواردات الدولة يصل لثمانين بالمئة" ("there is waste of state revenues reaching eighty percent") and listing causes, with the on-screen banner adding "العقابي: هناك فساد وسوء إدارة في وزارة الكهرباء" ("al-Aqabi: there is corruption and mismanagement in the Ministry of Electricity") on visual review. The second quoted Sadiqoun bloc deputy Salem al-Absawi saying "25 تريليون دينار ضائعة في وزارة الكهرباء" ("25 trillion dinars lost in the Ministry of Electricity"), demanding "تحقيق وكشف المقصرين" ("an investigation and exposure of those at fault") and raising questions about investors. No other tracked channel in the collected window carried either statement.

WHY IT MATTERS

Naming a ministry and a specific loss figure, with a demand to expose those responsible, is the recognisable opening of pressure over who controls electricity contracts and budget oversight.
