Sadiqoun MP denies designs on Badr's Diwaniyah share

WHAT HAPPENED

On the programme Siyasi al-Abaad, Al-Ahad TV (AAH — official) carried Sadiqoun bloc MP Saad al-Khuzali saying his bloc has no intention of seizing Badr's share in Diwaniyah, in the same segment in which he said Sadiqoun holds the largest number of seats on the Diwaniyah local council and has recorded notable successes in ministries. He paired this with heavy criticism of Diwaniyah's services, alleging 900 billion dinars spent between 2022 and 2025 with little to show, a 218-billion-dinar sewage project barely begun since 2011, and a demand that the prime minister open every corruption file in the province since 2011.

WHY IT MATTERS

Unprompted denials of designs on a rival's provincial share, paired with a corruption-file demand aimed at that province's record, mark Diwaniyah as contested ground between AAH and Badr in the run-up to local government bargaining.
